We're putting together an "Active" team to participate in Comic Relief this year by taking part in Parkrun on Saturday, March 16th.

Comic Relief has teamed up with Parkrun, an amazing organization that's all about making the world a healthier and happier place. Parkrun is an inclusive event where you can walk, jog, run, or even volunteer.  There's no need to worry about time limits or coming in last - everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!

The 5k course starts and ends at Les Quennevais Sports Centre and consists of a mix of tarmac paths and gravel trails. And since it's not a race, you can complete it at whatever pace feels good to you.

Collection buckets will be available in our reception at Les Quennevais Sports Centre and Springfield throughout the week. We've also set up an Active "Just Giving" Page if you would like to donate towards our cause. You can donate here.

Resources and tips for runners

The NHS has some free knee exercises for runners available, which will help with your running, strengthen the muscles around the knee and prevent knee pain.

The exercises strengthen all the muscles supporting the knee and stretch out the iliotibial band, known as the ITB, which runs down the outside of the thigh.

Warming up properly before exercising will help to prevent injury and make your workouts more effective.

Cooling down after a run helps to gradually lower your heart rate and prevents blood from pooling in your extremities. It also aids in reducing muscle soreness, promoting flexibility, and contributing to overall well-being and optimal recovery.
