The NRASTC LIGHT is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons.
It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the teacher’s standing depth. This award is only suitable when the facility has staff qualified as Lifeguards or First Aiders that are available to respond quickly to a swimming teacher or coach in the event of an emergency. (If Lifeguard or First Aid backup is not available, the standard NRASTC should be used.)
The course requires a minimum of 6 hours training and requires 100% attendance. The course will be delivered using a variety of methods including:
- PowerPoint Presentations
- Flip Chart Exercises
- Guided Group Discussions and Activities
- Practical Demonstrations and Training
The NRASTC LIGHT certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of successful completion of the course.
Topics Covered: The NRASTC LIGHT qualification is split into three sections
Section 1 - The swimming teacher, pool and class management
Section 2 – Intervention, rescue and emergency action
