Les Quennevais Sports Centre Planned Maintenance

The pools at Les Quennevais Sports Centre need to close for us to carry out essential, planned maintenance of the steel columns supporting the roof. This work was planned for the summer holidays before we knew of the electrical issues impacting the facility in April. We chose the summer holidays as this tends to be the quietest period in the year for the pools as many people choose to swim in the sea or take holidays in the summer. This period also minimises disruption to the swim school and other programmed activity.

We are pleased to confirm that whilst this work is underway, we will also carry out some refurbishment of the pool changing rooms. In addition, works will start on a new steam room and to replace the ventilation systems for that area.

Work has been ongoing since April to complete the electrical upgrades required at Les Quennevais.

As a precaution all showers in the main building will need to remain closed whilst they are treated and new samples taken and analysed. We anticipate showers being reinstated in three weeks, providing that the re-sample results prove satisfactory. Activities will continue as programmed but we would ask customers to plan to shower elsewhere during the closures. Sinks and water fountains in the centre are unaffected.

The complete programme of works over this coming period is as follows:

Start Date

Expected End Date

Areas impacted and Planned Works

Alternative Provision

15th July

November

Installation of new steam room and new ventilation systems. New tiling in this area.

Active members can use the Aquasplash Sauna and Steam at a discounted rate throughout the period of closure

Throughout the above works the squash courts; sports hall; ground floor dance studio and Harmony Physiotherapy room will remain open as normal. La Piscine Café is closed until 2nd September.

Please note expected end dates may be subject to change. We will endeavour to provide regular updates throughout the work in centre signage, website, social media channels and the Active Jersey app.

You gave me a refund after the closure in April, what’s different?

In April we needed to close the entire facility at Les Quennevais without notice. These works are planned, and alternatives have been offered. In line with our T&Cs refunds will not be offered during periods of planned maintenance if you choose not to use the alternatives provided.

I am unhappy with the service from Active, due to these disruptions, I want to cancel my membership.

We are sorry you are unhappy with the service. We never like to lose customers, but customer can cancel should they choose.

Why does the Gym need to close again?

The majority of the work required on the electrical systems at les Quennevais has been able to go ahead behind the scenes, since we reopened at the end of April. We had initially believed the final piece, to transfer all circuits to new circuit boards could be done during open hours, however, we have been advised that due to safety reasons, this needs to be done when there are no members of the public using these areas.

Why don’t you offer alternatives out west?

Government do not own or have any direct influence over the commercial businesses in the west of the island and are able to make provision centrally to accessible facilities for our entire membership.
